Kathleen Nicole Alexander
Memorial Scholarship
Welcome to the Kathleen Nicole Alexander Memorial Scholarship Page. This scholarship was established in the summer of 2018 to honor the life of Kathleen Nicole Alexander and to continue her legacy of service to others, excellence, generosity and support of early childhood education. Sweet and curious, Kathleen Nicole Alexander was beautiful as a child, and even more beautiful as the loving, kind, and caring woman she had become.
Kathleen was smart and always ready to learn. She attended Peyton Forest Elementary School, Jean Childs Young Middle School, and Benjamin E. Mays High School. She also attended Brenau Academy in Gainesville, GA prior to earning her high school diploma from Westlake High School in May 2004.
Although Kathleen loved her work at The Home Depot and was excited about the potential to climb the corporate ladder; She quickly decided she should follow her passion for working with children. During the 2016-2017 school year, she joined the staff of Peachtree Road Lutheran Preschool. Focused on learning all she could about the development of children, Kathleen earned her pre-school certification from the Childcare Education Institute. Kathleen attended Atlanta Metropolitan State College and earned an Associate’s Degree from Georgia Perimeter College, and she was pursuing her Bachelor of Science Degree in early childhood education from Georgia Southern University
As the daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter of pastors, Kathleen was no stranger to Christ. She was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church North at an early age, and later became one of the founding members of Lakewood Mission. Kathleen served the Lord with gladness at Lakewood as a member of the choir, usher board and finance committee. She loved God, her family and she had a special love for children. In 2016, Kathleen established Floating on A Dream, a non-profit to provide educational services to children at risk. In the summer of 2017, with her own money, Kathleen transformed her parent’s basement into a state of the art facility and offered a summer camp to children who didn’t have adequate funds to attend camp offered within the City of Atlanta. Kathleen provided a safe and enjoyable summer camp which offered weekly field trips, swimming and daily academic instruction.
Kathleen believed that education was the key to better a person’s life. She believed in fighting for people who didn’t have adequate resources. In hopes of continuing her legacy of service her family has established the Kathleen Nicole Alexander Memorial Scholarship, to enable an Atlanta Metropolitan State College student who is dedicated and driven to continue his/her education beyond high school.
The funds raised for this Endowed Scholarship will be placed in the Atlanta Metropolitan College Foundation Endowment Fund. The funds will remain untouched in the foundation until the endowment reaches a level in which scholarships can be awarded.
